On 14 April 2026, the Rec Centre transformed into a vibrant traditional hub as we celebrated Nepalese New Year 2083 B.S. in true Himalayan style.

From the solemn and proud moments of the march past and flag hoisting, to the rhythmic energy of cultural dances and folk music, and finally sharing the flavours of a typical Nepalese dinner, the spirit of Nepal was felt by everyone. Students, Nepalese alumni, staff, and the wider IPU community came together to welcome the New Year with high energy.

NAVA VARSHA, the Nepalese New Year, marks the first day of Baishakh (mid-April) according to the lunar Bikram Sambat calendar. It signifies a period of rejuvenation and cultural unity, observed through traditional rituals, temple visits, and family gatherings to pray for prosperity.

A special acknowledgement to Mr. Yoshihisa Tomonaga (Director-General of IPU NZ), Dr. Birendra K.C. (President of the Nepalese Society of Manawatū), and Dewan Tamang (President of the Bhutanese Society of NZ Manawatū). Your presence added immense value to the event and significantly strengthened our community bonds. We truly appreciate your support in making this cultural exchange a success, and we look forward to future opportunities for collaboration and community engagement.

Huge DHANYABAD (Thank you) to the IPU Nepalese Students Club for organising such an incredible event, and to everyone who joined us for the group photo!
