Rashid Ameer

Rashid Ameer is an Associate Professor, with extensive international academic experience across New Zealand, Malaysia, and the United Kingdom, including prior roles in Head of School and Assistant Dean capacities. His recent responsibilities at IPU New Zealand include teaching undergraduate accounting papers covering auditing, taxation, and financial reporting, delivering postgraduate papers, and supervising postgraduate research projects. He was recognised as Postgraduate Lecturer of the Year by student vote in both 2024 and 2025.


Rashid's research interests span corporate finance, financial markets, corporate governance, sustainability and corporate social responsibility, public sector accounting for climate risk, fraud and forensic accounting, and Islamic finance. He has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals including Accounting, Auditing & Accountability Journal, Meditari Accounting Research, Accounting & Finance, Journal of Criminology, and Asia-Pacific Financial Markets, with recent work addressing COVID-19 economic impacts in New Zealand, wellbeing budgeting, flood accounting for climate risk, and fraud mitigation in the context of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals. He is currently researching ESG rating divergence, greenwashing, and the role of analyst signalling.
