Hiroyasu (Hiro) Tsumakura has been a cornerstone of the IPU New Zealand community since 1996, contributing across a wide range of roles including Assistant to the Board of Trustees, Student Support Manager, Business Development Director, Interpreter and Translator (Japanese/English), and his current role as Public Relations Manager. Born in Japan, Hiro brings a deep understanding of both Japanese and New Zealand cultures, along with a genuine passion for international education and the opportunities it creates for students from all walks of life.

Hiro believes that international education develops globally-minded individuals who can work creatively with people from diverse backgrounds — much like an orchestra, where different instruments come together to make beautiful music. Outside of work, Hiro has a deep love for music, particularly classical and jazz, with a special appreciation for works such as La Bohème by Giacomo Puccini.
