Bawani Mohana Krishnan is an experienced Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) educator with over 15 years of teaching experience across New Zealand and Malaysia. Her recent responsibilities at IPU New Zealand include teaching New Zealand Certificate in English Language (NZCEL) and English language programmes across Levels 1 to 5, as well as undergraduate linguistics-related courses including The Study of Language. Her work also encompasses lesson planning, assessment design and marking, moderation, learner support, and programme development. Bawani additionally serves on the Student Disciplinary Committee, contributing to academic integrity and student conduct processes.
Bawani’s research interests span second language acquisition, TESOL methodology, communicative language teaching, academic literacy development, and English language education for multilingual learners. She has a particular interest in language learning among students with special educational needs, including communication development and inclusive language teaching practices. She is currently investigating the impact of communicative language teaching strategies on learner engagement in NZCEL programmes, and exploring effective language learning strategies for children with special educational needs and communication challenges.
