Bunkasai 文化祭 Success 2022

Last week saw IPU New Zealand hold our first Bunkasai 文化祭 (Japanese School Cultural Festival), when we played host to approximately 80 high-school students and staff from Awatapu College, Feilding High School, St Peter’s College, and Waiopehu College (Levin).

In Japan, Bunkasai 文化祭 Cultural Festivals are annual open days held by most schools, from nursery schools to universities, providing their students the opportunity to display their artistic achievements. Therefore, holding such an event here at IPU New Zealand was a wonderful opportunity to offer New Zealand students studying Japanese a perfect environment to take part in their own Bunkasai.

Our visitors enjoyed a number of activities, including Manga workshops, Calligraphy, Japanese games, Origami, Taiko Drumming, and a Japanese Tea Ceremony. Not only was it nice to see so many people here on campus, the last couple of years have been difficult for us all with the restrictions imposed due to COVID, it was also an excellent opportunity for our dedicated staff and students the chance to show off our campus to visitors, and sample IPU New Zealand's special brand of hospitality.

Finally, congratulations are due to everyone involved with the event, they really did IPU New Zealand proud.
