A landmark memorandum of agreement has been signed between IPU New Zealand and the Uzbekistan Government Foundation Organisation - The "El-Yurt Umidi" - Foundation for training specialist abroad under the Agency for the Development of Public service and the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The Foundation was created through the transformation of the Center for Training of Specialists Abroad and Dialogue with Compatriots under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and is the successor of the Foundation of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan "Istedod" to organize further training, internships and training of fellows abroad.

Dr Setsuko Ohashi, President of IPU New Zealand says, “It is very pleasing to see this Memorandum of Understanding established.  I understand that it is the very first MOU established between the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan and a tertiary institute in New Zealand, and I am very proud that IPU plays a key role in it.” …. “Through this MOU, I sincerely hope that IPU can contribute to the development of high-calibre individuals sought after in Uzbekistan, who would be able to contribute to further development of the bilateral relationship between Uzbekistan and New Zealand.”

European/Central Asian market manager for IPU New Zealand, Diana Shafieva, who worked to facilitate the memorandum has this to say. "We believe this is a big start for our long term cooperation with Uzbekistan - a unique country with a huge history, amazing culture and talented young people. Every Uzbekistan student who chooses to study abroad will carry this origin to diversify the cultures in student life.  It is a great honour for IPU New Zealand to share our international environment with the students from Uzbekistan and provide a unique experience their educational journey.”
