IPU Student Wins Gold at World Judo Championship

On 31 August 2019, Akira Sone, an IPU Japan student, beat Idals Ortiz from Cuba in the women’s heavyweight final, World Judo Championship held at Nippon Budokan, Tokyo.

The 19-year-old emerging star won her first senior world title, paving the way for her being considered for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
