IPU New Zealand Toastmasters Club awarded Select Distinguished Club ribbon

IPU New Zealand Toastmasters Club has recently been named a Select Distinguished Club for the 2017-2018 Toastmasters year. To win a Select Distinguished Club ribbon, IPU New Zealand Toastmasters Club met education, membership, training, and administration goals between July 2017 and June 2018.

In his letter of congratulations to the club, Balraj Arunsalam, the Toastmasters International President, stated that distinguished clubs help their members achieve their communication goals within an encouraging and constructive learning environment. IPU New Zealand Toastmasters Club demonstrated that its members gained education awards and provided leadership to new members. The Club also showed that its trained officers served and assisted members and completed all administrative duties in a timely manner.

Maurice Judd established IPU New Zealand Toastmasters Club in 2014, with the support of Jim Curtis and Colin Leong from the Massey University Toastmasters Club. The purpose of the club was that teachers, students, and community members could learn and practise speaking skills in a supportive environment. He says, “This is the second award IPU New Zealand Toastmasters Club has received in its four-year history. Amongst the five local clubs (IPU New Zealand, Massey, Dairy Research, Dannevirke and Central Hawkes Bay), ours was the only club to receive this level of recognition…And we also have fun!”
